Building & Operating Apartment
Buildings For Over 50 years
Franklin Construction, an affiliate of Franklin Communities, began building homes in 1917. After its founding by Francesco Tagliatela, Franklin Construction was known as a homebuilding company. However, after World War II, son, Louis Tagliatela Sr, took over and expanded the business.
Louis had three children, Louis Jr –responsible for apartments and construction, Tricia Tagliatela – responsible for North Haven Health & Racquet, and Stephen Tagliatela – responsible for Saybrook Point Resort & Marina and construction. More recently Lauren, Louis’ daughter, joined the company and created the Franklin Communities brand.
Louis Tagliatela Jr, a graduate of Georgetown University, is the principal responsible for Franklin Communities, which consists of over 800 apartment homes in Greater New Haven. He believes in giving back to the community and currently serves on the board of directors for Albertus Magnus College.
Lauren Tagliatela, a Boston University graduate, is a fourth-generation member of the business, and serves as Franklin Communities’ Chief Community Officer. She is responsible for capital projects, social media, community events, as well as sales and marketing.
Stephen Tagliatela is the principal responsible for Franklin Construction, LLC who along with Lauren promotes green initiatives at Franklin Communities.
Today thousands of Connecticut citizens live, learn, work and worship in buildings created by Franklin Construction.
Environmental Initiatives
Preserving the environment is a top priority of Franklin and its affiliates. Recently Franklin Communities installed solar thermal panels for generating hot water on 10 of its buildings. Last year Franklin installed clean energy gas heating systems with over 95% efficiency at two large apartment buildings and a super efficient cooling system at another of its buildings. Energy efficient roof coatings are being applied to most buildings owned by Franklin.
Franklin Communities is part of a group of companies owned and operated by the Tagliatela family. Together these companies boast seven Green Circle Awards from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. Saybrook Point Marina, which belongs to this group, is the first marina in Connecticut to receive a Clean Marina Award from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. Last year the companies completed a solar electric system which generates 43,920 watts. This year the companies dedicated a second solar electric system generating 190,000 watts.
Franklin Communities endorses environmentally friendly cleaning products and fertilizers. All residents are encouraged to recycle utilizing the recycling stations at each complex. Maintenance staff recycles all used thermostats, batteries and lights from apartments. The company’s latest green program is at Chestnut Hill South in Hamden. At this complex, tenants can grow their own vegetables and flowers at the new organic community garden on site.
